The gas blast took place in a community trade market in Shiyan, a city in Hubei province. The search and rescue efforts were still on as 138 people remained injured, 37 of them seriously. The number of people killed in this explosion on Sunday has risen to 25.

It was the latest serious accident in China that resulted in many deaths. A notice issued by the government said the cause of the accident is under investigation.
